I’ve been horrible about updating my blog. So I thought I’d at least give an update as to what’s going on with my work for those who are interested.

Here’s where we’re at: GENERATION SHIP is done. When I say done, I mean I don’t ever touch it again. We’ve sent out early copies to reviewers and gave away like 90 copies to readers who entered drawings. It’s out in the world in that form, and comes out everywhere books are sold on October 17. Early reviews have been good (linked from the book page if you’re interested.)

DARKSIDE (Planetside 4) is “done.” I use quotes because it’s very much not done. But the draft is finished and I sent it off to beta readers yesterday. I’ll revise it one more time before turning it into my editor, and then I’ll revise it again with him (usually one big edit and one minor one). After that it’s off to copy edits and page proofs. I expect it to be published in the fall of 2024.

So what’s next? No idea. I don’t have anything under contract. That’s mostly by choice–I haven’t pitched anything. In theory, I should be pitching right now. I’m not. It’s not for lack of ideas. I have several. It’s more indecision. I’m not sure what thing I want to write, and so I’m not sure if I want to lock myself into a binding contract for a fixed price. I feel like if I do that, I might find that I really want to write something else and don’t have the motivation to write the contracted thing, which makes it hard. I’m working on a few outlines. We’ll see what happens. I may wait until GENERATION SHIP hits stores to see how that’s doing. Maybe that will shape my creative direction (meaning if people really seem to like it, maybe I’ll write something else like it.)

There will be a lot of promotional work to do over the next couple of months that will keep me at least a little busy, and I’ll have the DARKSIDE rewrite to work on. Meanwhile, I’m off to the beach with my wife for a vacation while I wait for notes from beta readers. Be good to each other while I’m away.
